Campbellstown, PA possesses a fantastic distributor, the Brass Rail. Me and my wingman were very impressed with the beer selection available in cases, they had beers such as Tommyknocker, Breckenridge, Trappistes Rochefort (8 and 10), and a full lineup of Dogfish as well as many others. We arrived before 11, so the Deli was not officially open, yet the owners wife (whose name I didn’t catch) at the distributor told us her husband would be happy to let us in early. When we walked in the door, the owner, Cisco, promptly greeted us and shook our hands. During our “shopping”, he answered many questions we had and also just shot the bull with us about beer. If I lived closer, I would go in there just to hang out and talk to Cisco. This is a great beer bar, small, personal and a fantastic selection. By all means, they have Trappistes Rochefort 8 & 10 and Fantome Hiver, beers I didn’t even find at Beers of the World. I would have to say this place is very high on my list. Another plus is that the beer selection in the deli is on a revolving list of about 1200 beers, yeah one thousand two hundred beers. We absolutely plan on visiting again in a couple months.

We figures while in the area we would swing by Troegs and see what we could dig up there. Of course the brewery tours were not running, but if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. The tasting room there is quite nice with a very nice selection of merchandise. Another plus was the tasting bar which had the full Troegs lineup (almost) plus a Scratch beer. Having had all the Troegs beers, I went with a tasting of the Scratch #18 which is a Rye IPA. I was a tad apprehensive of the rye, considering I am not much a fan of rye bread. Surprisingly, the beer had only a pleasant aroma of rye, I didn’t detect any aftertaste of rye which was very nice. Of course, being an IPA there was an abundance of hops with a slightly long finish. It was a very enjoyable, unfortunately they had no bottles of said beer left. Would have been a little more worth our while stopping if they had beers there you can’t get anywhere else.
