Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel- Route des epices.
Founded by two French Canadian biology majors in Montreal, Brasserie Du Ciel’s Route des epices (“Spice Route”) hits my experimental brew sweet spot. A rye beer infused with black and green peppercorns, this beer delivers a multi-layered complexity with a low alcohol percentage (5% alc/vol.) The initial flavors are caramel and fresh baked bread, followed by a mellow peppery finish, which does indeed leave a tingling on your tongue, as the description on the bottle promises. I have to admit, I was a little hesitant to pay five dollars for an 11.5 oz. bottle that wasn’t made by Trappist monks, but it was worth it. We may poke fun at our neighbors to the north, but they do have better affordable health care, and some really good beer! This beer would be perfect with a monster steak the size of your head, cooked out on the grill in the backyard. Cheers Canadian neighbors;enjoy your day!
