Belgian Strong Dark Ale | 9.00% ABV

Pours a gorgeous chestnut brown with a very fluffy tan head. The nose is loaded with fruity, fig aromas. At first sip, biscuity, bready flavors rule, while many underpinnings come in very subtly. Such as honey and caramel along with bits of candi sugar and a earthy hop flavor. This is by no means a loaded beer, it is very drinkable and not too spicy, making it a perfect match for the meal.

Pairing Notes:

This meal is a spin on steak and eggs. A half sirloin steak atop a crunchy potato cake, topped with an egg and cheese. Savory is an understatement for all the flavor happening in this dish. From the egg and cheese to all the loaded flavors of the steak and potato I decided to contrast and somewhat compliment this meal. The biscuity, bready flavors went great with the egg, while all the sweetness of the beer blended well with the caramelized flavors of the steak. The slight hoppiness of the beer cut exactly what needed tamed and stood very well in the background. Local 2 paired very well with steak and eggs and would be great to accompany any brunch.

beer + food = Barleydine
